Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. has been named the Canadian Premier League’s Manager of the Month for October of 2024. This month saw Wheeldon Jr.’s Cavalry string together three straight victories to finish the regular season: 4-1 against Pacific FC, 2-1 over Halifax and 2-1 over Valour to secure second place in the CPL table. As a result, they earned a place in the CPL Playoff qualifying semifinal on Oct. 27 where they defeated Forge FC 1-0, meaning they will host the 2024 CPL Final at ATCO Field. Wheeldon Jr. was also the league’s Manager of the Month for August. Forge’s Bobby Smyrniotis is the only other two-time winner, earning the honour in April and September. Atlético Ottawa’s Carlos González (May), Halifax’s Patrice Gheisar (June) and York United’s Benjamín Mora (July) were the other winners this season.
