Toronto, ON (Jan 6, 2026) – Inter Toronto Football Club announced today the appointment of Marco Bonofiglio as Head Coach of the club’s U21 team, further strengthening the Inter Toronto Pathway and its connection to the first team.

Bonofiglio brings over a decade of high-level youth development experience and a growing international résumé that spans Canada, the United States and Italy. His coaching journey has included work with Serie C and Serie D clubs, where he focused on developing young players while learning alongside coaches who have been part of Italy’s national team setup. He holds a Concacaf National A License and is widely respected for his dynamic coaching style, technical knowledge and ability to build strong relationships with players and staff.

Most recently, Bonofiglio spent the past two years within the Guyana national program, serving as Head Coach of the U17 national team before being promoted to Assistant Coach with the senior men’s national team. In 2025, he played a key role during the Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers, helping Guyana secure a historic third-place finish in their group, and later contributed to the senior program during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying cycle.

Alongside his international experience, Bonofiglio has also been involved in the club environment in Canada. During the 2025 season, he worked as an assistant coach with the York United Academy, gaining first-hand insight into the evolution of the club’s development structure and long-term vision.

“I think that’s a positive thing I’ve noticed since I started here,” said Bonofiglio. “I started back for the Pro Camp Pathway. Having seen how many players came out just for that tryout that week, and now seeing the current tryouts across the academy, there’s an excitement because people are seeing what we’ve done over the past year,” he said.

“Ownership, staff, coaches and players are all committed to building this pathway. “This program exists with the goal to develop players to reach the professional level.” Young Canadian players shouldn’t have to look abroad for opportunity. We want to provide that pathway right here in Canada.

Reflecting on his time within a national team environment, Bonofiglio emphasized how those experiences directly inform his approach to youth development at club level.

“It’s the same process you follow to reach the first team,” he said. “My experience with the U17 national team and with the men’s national team, where we tried to qualify for the Gold Cup and the World Cup, reinforced how important the process and the daily development are. I’m hoping to take that experience and bring it here, support our youth athletes and also help the first team alongside Mauro.”
