Ali Musse is staying in Calgary.
Cavalry FC announced Wednesday that one of the most dynamic players in the Canadian Premier League will remain at ATCO Field, after Musse signed a new contract guaranteed through the 2028 season.
The 30-year-old winger will be back in 2026 for a sixth season with Cavalry, and a seventh in the CPL, where he will be aiming to deliver more silverware for the Cavs. Musse has scored 31 goals and recorded 25 assists in 122 career games for Cavalry, including three goals in the playoffs.
Musse, Cavalry's all-time leader in assists, was a key part of the team's 2023 CPL Shield and 2024 North Star Cup triumphs. In 2025, he led the club in both goals (nine) and assists (seven) in the regular season, and scored once in the playoffs as the Cavs advanced to a third consecutive CPL Final.
In 2023, Musse was voted the CPL's Players' Player of the Year by his peers, and has finished in the top 10 in voting every year the award has been handed out.
"Ali Musse has been a star in this league and a massive player for our club,” said Cavalry head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. in a statement. “We worked hard to get this deal done because players like Ali raise the level of our group. He brings quality, personality, and excitement to the pitch — and I know our supporters will be thrilled to see that number seven jersey attacking the opposition.”
Born in Mogadishu, Musse represents Somalia internationally, with eight caps to his name including most of the country's recent World Cup Qualifying campaign. He represented Canada at the U-17 level, having grown up in Winnipeg.
“This city and community have become my home," said Musse. "We’ve shared many special moments, and I’m excited to continue the journey toward even greater heights.”
Musse's aggression with the ball, pace and crossing ability will help keep Cavalry's attack among the best in the CPL. His existing partnerships with the likes of Tobias Warschewski, Sergio Camargo and Caniggia Elva may now be complemented by the club's newcomers, like Nathaniel Edwards.
He will now join the club in pre-season training for the final three weeks of preparations before their 2026 campaign kicks off Sunday, April 5 at Pacific FC.
