Canada Soccer announced on Thursday that the Canadian men’s national team will be returning to Toronto’s BMO Field this autumn, for a Concacaf Nations League quarter-final matchup on Nov. 21. The match — which will be the second leg of a two-legged knockout tie — will serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Copa América tournament, with the winner proceeding directly to the prestigious competition to play against top South American sides like Brazil and Argentina. Canada’s opponent for this matchup has not yet been determined, as they will play a team that emerges from the 2023-24 Nations League group stage. Based on current Concacaf ranking, Canada is likely to be seeded third and thus play the lower-ranked of the two group winners. This quarter-final matchup is expected to be the first competitive fixture for Canada under interim head coach Mauro Biello, who took over from John Herdman in late August. The Canadian team qualified for this quarter-final round directly due to their place in the top four of Concacaf’s men’s national team rankings, along with Mexico, the United States and Costa Rica. Six teams from Concacaf will qualify for the 2024 Copa América tournament, which will be played this summer in the United States from June 20 to July 14. The four quarter-final winners will go directly to the competition, while the remaining two spots will be determined via a play-in round between the losing quarter-finalists.
