Cavalry FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed 23-year-old attacker Goteh Ntignee through the 2027 Canadian Premier League season, with an option for a further year

The Benin-born, Alberta-raised winger returns to Calgary after spending the past two years in France with Ligue 2 side Annecy. Ntignee previously played for Cavalry in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, having joined the club from German side FC Grimma.

“We are delighted to welcome Goteh back to the club,” said Cavalry head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr.“He is a dynamic and skilled attacking player that can cause issues for any defense in this league. I’m sure our fans will be excited to see him in the Cavalry jersey once again.”

Ntignee debuted for Cavalry in their last regular season game of 2022, where he came off the bench late and immediately played in the cross for a last-minute Ben Fisk winner against Pacific. He would also make an appearance in the playoffs that year, and in 2023 he had a breakout year that thrust him into the spotlight.

He made 17 CPL appearances in 2023, scoring twice and providing three assists, before FC Annecy came calling mid-season. Cavalry sold Ntignee to the French club in August for what at the time was a Canadian Premier League record transfer fee.

Ntignee spent two seasons in France, the highlight of his stint there being a Coupe de France match late last year where he scored a hat trick against FC Vesoul.

Now, Ntignee returns to Calgary where he'll aim to help the Cavs defend their North Star Cup championship.

Born in Kpomassè, Benin, Ntignee was raised in Canada. He first moved to Moose Jaw, Sask., before finally settling in Coaldale, Alta. He began his footballing journey at various local clubs including Grasslands SA and Eaststide Memorial, then headed to Vancouver Island, eventually joining the Victoria Highlanders before moving to Germany to pursue a professional career.

“I’m very happy to be back at [Cavalry],” said Ntignee. “I’m very hungry to win games and can’t wait to get started with the squad.”

Ntignee will be eligible to appear for Cavalry once the transfer window opens on July 24, pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
