Vancouver FC midfielder Nicolás Mezquida has been suspended for two matches after the Canada Soccer Disciplinary Panel rejected the club’s appeal of his recent red card.
Mezquida was issued a red card for serious foul play in the 61st minute of Vancouver’s match against Cavalry FC on July 13, 2025. Vancouver appealed the decision following the match, submitting a claim of wrongful dismissal to Canada Soccer, which handles on-field disciplinary matters for the CPL, pursuant to Canada Soccer’s Disciplinary Code and Professional Soccer Club Disciplinary Annex.
The Canada Soccer Disciplinary Panel rejected the club’s appeal following a hearing on Thursday.
Mezquida is now required to serve a two-match suspension. He will miss Vancouver’s upcoming Canadian Premier League fixtures against York United FC on July 19 and Valour FC on July 25.
