Each week of the Fall season, CanPL.ca will highlight the top five Volkswagen Premier Performers of the Week, while updating the overall standings as players from across the league compete to top the table and win a new Volkswagen Jetta GLI.**

Here are the 5 VW Premier Performers of the Week:

1) Dominique Malonga (Cavalry FC) – 86.50 pts

(Finals2019) CPL: Canadian Championship-Forge FC at Cavalry FC

Cavalry’s big no. 9 tops the list after a comprehensive attacking effort against York9 on Wednesday; two goals on seven shots, four on target, and two key passes. Malonga’s positioning on his two markers were a particular highlight, finding space in a crowded box and smartly one-hitting his attempts.

2) Jonathan Grant (Forge FC) – 85.23 pts

Grantaldo! Forge’s athletic right fullback became the unlikely hero in their 1-0 top-of-the-table clash with Cavalry. Curling a left-footed attempt past Marco Carducci, Grant’s moment of magic stood as the difference.

3) Marcus Haber (Pacific FC) – 84.02 pts

Canadian Premier League – Pacific FC V Valour FC – Victoria, BC, Canada – August 24, 2019

From “one touch, one goal” to “two shots, two goals,” six-foot-four Marcus Haber had a striker’s dream in the second half of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Valour. A leaning, contested header and a converted penalty was, just like Grant, the difference for Pacific on the day.

4) Quillan Roberts (Forge FC) – 83.48 pts

Quillan Roberts

Forge goalkeeper Quillan Roberts stepped in as relief for Triston Henry, making a tidy two-stop performance into a winning one. His distribution was good, too.

5) Wataru Murofushi (York9 FC) – 83.27 pts

CPL: Canadian Championship-Montreal Impact at York9 FC

Murofushi entered York9’s midfield in Edmonton, the second of back-to-back Alberta matches. The result was a classic box-to-box performance from the versatile Japanese operator; a rebound goal off a saved penalty, two key passes, some key interceptions and good passing and possession-retention throughout.

Top 5 Overall

RANK PLAYER CLUB POINTS (Avg./match)
1 Marco Carducci Cavalry FC 79.51
2 Michael Petrasso Valour FC 77.00
3 Nathan Ingham York9 FC 76.46
4 Ryan Telfer York9 FC 76.43
5 Dominique Malonga Cavalry FC 75.64

ANALYSIS:

Well, well, well! Things are heating up. Valour’s Michael Petrasso climbs after scoring his fifth goal in six matches, taking second over York9 goalkeeper Nathan Ingham, who conceded five goals over two matches in Alberta. Meanwhile, front-runner Marco Carducci dropped a point and a half, closing the gap between first and the rest of the pack.
