The Canadian men’s national team will return to Toronto’s BMO Field on March 28 for a crucial Concacaf Nations League match against Honduras. It will be Canada’s first match on home soil since the 2022 Qatar World Cup, concluding the team’s 2022-23 Nations League group stage. Canada will open the window against Curaçao at Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad on March 25. These matches have taken on increased importance in recent weeks, owing to an announcement that six Concacaf teams will be involved in the 2024 Copa América tournament. The qualification process for that will be through the 2023-24 Nations League, making it critical that Canada stays in League A. Finishing second place in the group, where Canada currently sits after two matches, would ensure they remain in League A for next year’s tournament, as well as qualify Canada directly for this summer’s Gold Cup. Given the quality and ambition of this team, however, topping Group C will be the only outcome considered close to good enough internally. This is especially true after they finished top of the table during Concacaf World Cup qualifying; following that up by finishing outside the top four in Nations League would be a major disappointment. Reaching the semifinal tournament would mean entering a four-team bracket, with matches played in June 2023. The Finals would mean two more matches (as a third-place game is also played, regardless of whether Canada could reach the final) against top Concacaf teams, including the possibility of rivals United States and/or Mexico — critical competition as Canada begins its long 2026 World Cup preparation cycle. Here is the table for Group C as it stands. Canada has a game in hand, as well as the best goal difference in the group. A win and a draw, regardless of the other results, would be enough to see Canada finish top.
| Pos. | Team | GP | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
| 1 | Honduras | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 3 | +1 | 6 |
| 2 | Canada | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 2 | +3 | 3 |
| 3 | Curaçao | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 6 | -4 | 3 |
Canada opened the 2022-23 Nations League with a convincing 4-0 win over Curaçao at BC Place, highlighted by an Alphonso Davies brace back on June 9, 2022. Four days later, however, they played Honduras on a water-logged Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano pitch in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and lost 2-1. As a result, Honduras currently sits top of the group. While the match against Honduras at BMO Field will understandably take the headlines, the opening match of the March window in Curaçao will be tricky as well, especially being on the road. Canada has lost its last three Concacaf road matches, and Curaçao needs a win to have a chance at not being relegated from League A. The return to BMO Field, meanwhile, will be a welcome one, as Canada has only ever lost once at the stadium — a 2-0 friendly defeat to Peru in September 2010. The last time they were at the stadium they defeated Jamaica 4-0, qualifying them for the 2022 World Cup. They drew against Honduras 1-1 at BMO Field in their opening match of the final round of Concacaf World Cup qualifying back in September 2021. They would go on to beat Honduras 2-0 in the return leg. The matches kick off an exciting 2023 for Canada, which will include the Concacaf Gold Cup in June. This will be another chance to prove they should be considered among the region’s elite, as they will be looking to reach their first final since 2000.
