On Monday morning, Canada Soccer announced their 60-man Men’s National Team preliminary roster for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Included in the squad is 17-year-old York United attacker Shola Jimoh. The dynamic player has proven himself to be one of the most exciting young prospects in the country.
Jimoh has appeared in all seven league matches for York United this season, starting twice and picking up an assist. He is in his second season with the club, having made his professional debut on June 9, 2024, and scoring four goals that campaign.
The Brampton, Ont. native was also part of the preliminary squad for the 2024-25 Concacaf Nations League Finals. He was previously called up to the senior men’s national team for a camp in November 2024. He has also represented Canada at the youth level, helping them qualify for the U-17 World Cup in February.
“He shows some real cleverness on the ball at times, some explosiveness in the way he plays,” said Canadian men’s national team head coach Jesse Marsch in November. “But also intelligence, in that when I try to give him little things to be thinking about, he’s able to apply them quickly.”
The squad includes six other former CPL players, including Victor Loturi (formerly of Cavalry FC), James Pantemis (Valour), Kwasi Poku (Forge FC), Jonathan Sirois (Valour FC), Joel Waterman (Cavalry FC) and Dominick Zator (Cavalry FC and York United).
Each team’s final 23-player roster must be submitted by June 4. Canada kick off the 2025 Gold Cup against Honduras at BC Place on June 17. Their group also includes El Salvador and Curaçao -- both of whom they will face in Houston.
