Since joining Vancouver FC in early 2023, Tyler Crawford’s story has been one of grit, resilience, and quiet determination. Arriving from Michigan State University as a technically gifted and tactically intelligent left-back, Crawford entered a professional environment filled with seasoned veterans, where adapting to the speed and physicality of the Canadian Premier League was an immediate challenge.
Now entering his third season with the club, Crawford has experienced Vancouver FC’s growth from its earliest days. “It’s been exciting to watch the club grow since its birth in 2023,” he said. “We’ve been through many ups and downs throughout the years, so to see the team reach a Canadian Championship Final and earn a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup is really something to look forward to and build on.”
After a promising first season in 2023, where he made 23 appearances and impressed with his composure on the ball and ability to read the game, Crawford established himself as a versatile defensive option, capable of contributing on both sides of the ball and providing width down the left flank.
The 2024 season, however, tested that momentum. An injury sidelined him for much of the year, limiting him to just eight appearances. Rather than allowing the setback to define him, Crawford embraced the recovery process, committing fully to his rehabilitation and maintaining a sharp focus on returning stronger.
That persistence paid off in one of the most meaningful moments of his career, making his return to the pitch in the Canadian Championship Final. “Making my comeback to the field after my injury was a really important milestone for me,” he reflected. “I felt like I came back stronger mentally and physically. Most importantly, I was able to come back and help the team on the pitch. It’s an experience I will never forget.”
Vancouver FC’s belief in Crawford never wavered, and the club rewarded his resilience with a new contract, including an additional year plus a club option through 2027. It was a clear vote of confidence in a player who had faced adversity with professionalism and resolve.
As one of the club’s originals, Crawford now looks ahead to another historic chapter: Vancouver FC’s first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup appearance. “It’s going to be our biggest game as a club, and being a part of that is really special,” he said. “These are the types of games we all hope to be playing in, so it’s important we prepare well and enjoy it.”

With the draw now set, that challenge comes against iconic Mexican side Cruz Azul, a matchup that adds even more significance to the moment. “I’m eager to test ourselves as a team against the reigning champions,” Crawford added. “Cruz Azul is a team with lots of quality and history in this tournament. I’m excited to have them here at Willoughby Stadium in front of our fans.”
Tyler Crawford’s journey is still being written. At just 21 years old, each training session, matchday, and recovery step represents another opportunity to grow and contribute. From the club’s early foundations to the biggest stage it has reached so far, Crawford remains a symbol of Vancouver FC’s resilience, and a reminder that perseverance can turn setbacks into defining moments.
