Felipe Jaramillo Drolet Earns Colombia U-17 National Team Call-Up; Vancouver FC Signs Goalkeeper Matheus de Souza
June 24, 2025 – Langley, BC — Vancouver FC is proud to announce that Felipe Jaramillo Drolet, a standout from the club’s U-19 program and current second goalkeeper for the first team, has been called up to the Colombian Men’s U-17 National Team. He will represent his country in a series of international friendlies taking place in San José, Costa Rica, from June 16 to 29, 2025.
This significant achievement highlights Felipe’s exceptional talent and marks an important milestone for both the young goalkeeper and Vancouver FC’s commitment to youth development and progression to the professional level.
Despite his young age, Felipe has already shown outstanding composure and versatility on the field, rapidly rising through the ranks of Vancouver FC’s U-19 program. His development has earned him the role of backup to club captain Callum Irving for the 2025 Canadian Premier League season. With two national team call-ups to his name, he now plays a vital role in Colombia’s preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Felipe joins a growing list of future talents making an impact at the professional and international levels, including TJ Tahid, James Cameron, Kevin Podgorni, and Grady McDonell. Together, they exemplify Vancouver FC’s mission to grow the game and develop local talent capable of competing on the world stage.
As Felipe embarks on this exciting international journey, the entire Vancouver FC community stands behind him with pride, celebrating his success and eagerly anticipating his continued growth in the sport. His story serves as an inspiration to young players across Canada, proving that with dedication, hard work, and the right support, international opportunities are within reach.
Welcome, Matheus de Souza
As Felipe departs for international duty, Vancouver FC is also pleased to welcome goalkeeper Matheus de Souza to the squad on a short-term replacement contract. A Brazilian Canadian talent, de Souza is the current starting goalkeeper for League1 BC side Langley United. He has committed to the University of the Fraser Valley for the upcoming fall season and previously spent time with the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy.
This marks a major milestone for Vancouver FC and our partnership with LUSA, and a shining example of the grassroots-to-pro development model we are building. Together, we are providing opportunities for local youth to chase their dreams and work towards representing Canada at the 2026 World Cup and beyond.
Felipe will be back in town for Vancouver FC's next home game on July 13 as we host reigning champions Cavalry FC. Don't miss live music, food trucks, matchday giveaways and a pre-match car show presented by Gold Key Volkswagen.
