Toronto, ON (May 16, 2025) – The next chapter in the 2025 L1 Cup is set. York United FC Academy will face Woodbridge Strikers on Wednesday, May 21 at 8:30 PM at Vaughan Grove, with a spot in the next round of the tournament on the line.
The Nine Stripes arrive in Round Two following a dramatic opening match in mid-April, where they edged out Sudbury Cyclones in a tense penalty shootout at York Lions Stadium. After a 0-0 draw in regulation time, York secured the victory 4-3 on penalties to advance.
Despite missing a last-second penalty in regulation, the team remained mentally strong and composed in the shootout. Kemari Record-Wright, Davin Chhoeun, Finn Raible and Yaathav Lakshman all converted from the spot with precision, while goalkeeper Michael Williams delivered a standout performance by saving two penalties to help seal the win.
Now, the squad prepares to face a well-known opponent in Woodbridge Strikers. The match promises to be another test for a young and determined group looking to continue their Cup journey with confidence and resilience.
