Few moves this off-season were more shocking than Marco Carducci switching coasts to join the Halifax Wanderers.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper from Calgary had been between the sticks for his hometown club since the league's inaugural season, captaining them to a CPL Shield in 2023 and North Star Cup in 2024. In that time, he also won two Golden Gloves as the league's top goalkeeper.
But on Saturday, June 6 (7 p,m. ET / 5 p.m. MT), Carducci will emerge from the away locker room at ATCO Field for the first time. It will certainly be an odd sight for the Calgary faithful, but also a chance to welcome home a club legend.
Once the match kicks off, however, it's all business. Carducci will set aside his personal history in search of Halifax club history.
The Wanderers have never won a match at ATCO Field, and doing so in Carducci's return would be a big moment for a Halifax club looking to set new standards under new head coach Vanni Sartini this season.
Can they finally conquer Cavalry's fortress? The Calgary club have lost just five times in 42 CPL home games over the past three seasons.
Will Carducci have a triumphant return to Calgary? Or can Cavalry once again hold off Halifax at home?
