On Saturday, July 26th at just 16 years old, Veniamin “Venny” Chernyshev made his professional debut with Pacific FC - a powerful moment that symbolizes hard work, resilience, and growth for one of Pacific FC's brightest young talents.

Born in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, and raised in Kyiv, Chernyshev’s life changed dramatically in 2022 when his family of nine was forced to relocate to Kelowna, B.C. due to the devastating impact of war in his home country.

“Moving from Kyiv to Kelowna and then to Victoria wasn’t easy, especially at my age,” Venny shared. “It was a big change, but it helped me grow up faster and stay focused on my soccer goals.”

The teenage striker is currently in the process of becoming a Canadian permanent resident and has been granted special dispensation by the Canadian Premier League to sign a development contract—typically reserved for domestic players.

Chernyshev was first identified by Pacific FC’s Director of Football, Jamar Dixon, while playing for a Kelowna-based team in the Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer League. His talent stood out, leading him to relocate once more—this time to Vancouver Island, where he joined the Van Isle Wave Program and enrolled at The Football Academy.

Now a standout member of the 2008 Van Isle Wave Boys team, Venny recently helped his squad win the BCSPL League Title, earning them the chance to represent BC at the 2025 Canada Soccer PDP U-17 Cup this August in Ontario.

But for Venny, playing football is more than just competition, it's a tribute to everything his family has endured.

“My family has sacrificed a lot for me, and I carry that with me every time I step on the field,” he said. “I play to make them proud and to show that their support means everything. Being Ukrainian is a big part of who I am, and I try to bring that strength and heart into my game.”

From conflict in Ukraine to chasing dreams on Canada’s west coast, Venny’s journey to his professional debut is a story of perseverance, family, and belief. It's also just the beginning.
