Toronto, ON (July 15, 2025) – The launch of the York United FC Academy in 2025 marked a key step in the club’s commitment to long-term player development. Built with a clear purpose, the program provides a structured environment for young talent to grow within the standards of the professional game.

Steps Toward the First Team

Nine Academy players have taken part in First Team training this season. These sessions offer valuable exposure to the next level of the game and allow technical staff to evaluate players in a professional context.

Three players have been directly involved in matchday environments:

  • Joshua Lopez has made three appearances in Canadian Premier League matches.

  • Anthony Umanzor featured earlier this season and remains part of the First Team training group.

  • Michael Williams, an 18-year-old goalkeeper, has been named to the matchday squad on eleven occasions across league and cup competitions.

Their involvement reflects a clear and deliberate approach: identify talent, support their growth, and provide opportunities based on readiness and performance.

Looking Ahead

The Academy continues to serve as a foundational part of York United FC’s long-term vision. With direct integration into First Team operations and a focus on preparing players for the demands of the professional level, the pathway is clear.

The work is ongoing, but the message is strong: development is part of the identity, and the future, of the club.
