Langford, BC – July 23, 2025 – The Island’s top scorer is coming home.
Pacific FC is thrilled to announce the return of striker Alejandro ‘Wero’ Díaz, who joins the club on loan from Vancouver FC through the remainder of the 2025 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season. The agreement includes an option to make the move permanent.
Díaz needs no introduction to the Trident family. A fan favourite and club legend, he returns to Pacific FC for his second stint after first lighting up the Island from 2020 to 2022, where he became the club’s all-time leading goal scorer and played a key role in our 2021 CPL championship run.
“Alejandro has proven he's one of the best strikers in this league,” said James Merriman, Head Coach of Pacific FC. “He was a big part of our family before his move to Europe, and we're proud to welcome him back. We know what he brings — not just on the pitch, but in the locker room and in the community.”
Díaz’s journey since leaving Pacific in August 2022 — then a club-record transfer to Norwegian side Sogndal — has taken him across Europe and back to the CPL, where he most recently played for Vancouver FC. But the call of the Island was strong.
“I’m just happy because this is home. This is where it all started,” said Díaz. “I’m excited to come back to the Island, to wear the Pacific crest again, and to play in front of our fans at Starlight. I can’t wait.”
During his first run with Pacific, Díaz scored 31 goals and added 9 assists in 62 appearances, leading the line with power, precision, and an undeniable connection to the fans. He won the 2022 CPL Golden Boot despite leaving mid-season for Europe, underlining his status as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
Since then, he’s continued to add to his CPL legacy. Díaz currently ranks second all-time in league goals and returns to Pacific not just as a scorer — but as a symbol of the what's possible when talent meets the grit, hard work, and perseverance that defines the club and the people of Vancouver Island.
Before arriving in Canada, the Mexican forward developed through the ranks of Liga MX giants Club América, with stints at Necaxa, Atlas, and Zacatepec. He also represented Mexico’s U17 and U20 national teams, scoring 7 goals in 19 appearances and lifting the CONCACAF U20 Championship in 2015.
Díaz will be eligible to suit up for Pacific FC following the opening of the CPL Secondary Transfer Window on July 24, 2025.
